The best thing my parents let me do
I want to share with you the crazy thing that my parents allowed me to do without fail! When I was young I was very curious and adventurous. I wasn’t really afraid of trying new things not only that, my parents encouraged it! I remember starting a lawn service at age 13! My brother and I had about 5 yards, my father bought a trailer and a truck just to cut yards, at least that’s how I remember it. Not only that my father helped us cut each yard and didn’t take a cut! That was 20 years ago!
So here it is!
So the crazy thing my parents allowed me to do that still impacts me still today is… letting me get the crazy haircuts! They let me style my hair anyway I wanted to. \Weird haircuts, different kinds of parts and designs! Y’all remember the brand “Starter”? I remember getting a starter logo in the back of my head! Yes a Starter logo! As well as the nike logo and the Jordan logo! It gets worse! My parents let me put a perm in my hair! Y’all!!! A PERM!! Because I wanted slick hair like Sisqo, the artist!
Being called a Peacock
I remember I grew my hair out about 2 inches, which is long for me! And I wanted to add a perm, I had a complex. So my parents let me! Matter of fact my mom, put the perm in for me! However, she left the perm in too long and my hair became super straight. Like the top of my head looked like fake fur! I look like a black Jackie Chan. I remember seating on the front row at church one night and hearing “cahhh, cahh” in high pitch voices! I thought I was hearing things but then I heard it again, cahhh, cahhh!! Louder!! I looked back and there were some boys making fun of my too straight perm! They said I looked like a peacock and a crow at the same time!! My feelings were hurt!! But they were right, I had gone too far with this hair thing and I had it coming!
The bottom line!
The bottom is this! My parents let me take risks! No matter if they thought my ideas were stupid or could possibly work! They let me embark on the journey of taking risks and because of that… I experienced at an early age the feeling risk-taking! I experienced the feeling of humiliation as I attempted to up my hair game but took it too far. I experienced the influence that came when a risk paid off! Today take the risk! Get the too far hair style! You will learn that..
Learnings
If it’s a failed attempted like mine the humiliation wasn’t that bad!
If it works out you’ll be proud of yourself and how often does the happen?
The praise given and influence gained doesn’t matter as much as killing the lies you’ve been telling yourself!
